What is Functional Therapy?
func·tion·al: of or having a special activity, purpose, or task; relating to the way in which someone works or operates.
ther·a·py: is the treatment intended to relieve or heal a disorder.
Functional Therapy
Functional Therapy is the practice of identifying restrictions in the connective tissues "negative tension" throughout the body. Restructuring of connective tissues through manual therapies and active moments. Education of body mechanics, and reestablishing the mind-muscle connection "positive tension" to bring the body back to a balanced state.
Functional Therapy Practitioner
JON HARVEY
My name is Jon Harvey, and I have been practicing as a professional massage therapist for sixteen years. Through the years, I have sharpened my focus and skills with over fifteen thousand hours of practice and 1500 hours of continuing education. This has qualified me to work at the Olympic Training Center on several occasions. This has been the fulfillment of a dream to work with Olympic athletes and other sports professionals to help them achieve an optimal state of performance. It was during my first experience at the OTC in 2013 that I was inspired to understand the human body in a deeper way.
I graduated from the University of Memphis with a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science and most recently completed a 200-hour certification in Synergetic Myofascial Therapy. Due to my extensive knowledge and years of experience, my clients see me as a "Functional Therapist,” in place of massage therapist, as it illustrates the blending of knowledge from different fields of practice to help people function better in life. I have crafted a method of addressing the client's immediate needs while also investigating the underlying issues.
The release of negative tension and pain structurally balances a person's mind, body, and soul. It revitalizes precious resources for physical, mental, and emotional health. I provide my clients with a safe, calming, and professional environment to relieve pain, recover, and continue to thrive! .

MISSION
At Back In Motion Functional Therapy, the emphasis is on putting the patient first and taking extra time to make sure every need is acknowledged. Since my clients strive for a healthy and active lifestyle, my mission is to help them achieve and sustain that so they can continue doing the things they love. I want my client's bodies to function at their highest level possible. I also want to help alleviate any symptoms and underlying problems that may be preventing them from participating in an active lifestyle.
WHAT TO EXPECT
ASSESSMENT - TREATMENT - KNOWLEDGE - PREVENTATIVE EXERCISES
You can expect to begin with a detailed history of your symptoms at your first appointment. This information will help paint a more in-depth picture of your physical activities. I want you to have enough time during an appointment to discuss any concerns you may have and to identify your goals. Click here for recommended attire.
The Back In Motion Difference
BACK IN MOTION STANDARDS OF PRACTICE
BIMFT prides itself on being different than typical manual therapy practitioners. It is my mission to help you heal as quickly as you can through the use of many different types of manual therapies.
APPOINTMENT LENGTH
All appointments are one-on-one. Appointments are in 30-minute and 60-minute sessions depending on your case. In general, the more time we spend, the more issues can be addressed.
COMPREHENSIVE SESSIONS
I understand the limitations of each modality and know each client is different. Blending the use of the most recent research and multiple modalities during a session helps ensures a positive outcome. Sessions can consist of a combination of soft tissue joint manipulation, movement-based fascial release, vibrational technology, and rehabilitation/corrective exercise that complement each session to ensure the best result.
HSA & FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNTS
A detailed statement of each session are provided upon request. Reimbursement policies vary from insurance company to insurance company.
